2027 Season
2027 will be an exciting year!
Our focus will center on three masterpieces of the operatic repertoire: Verdi’s La Traviata, Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, and Puccini’s La Boheme. Each singer accepted into the program will be assigned a role in one of these operas if they desire. Throughout the intensive, participants will explore every facet of their assigned work—its music, style, and dramatic depth—while gaining hands-on experience in bringing a fully staged, orchestra-accompanied production to life.
All singers are expected to arrive at MOSF completely off book and prepared to perform. In addition, every participant will take part in the chorus of all three operas (cuts to be announced soon).
La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini follows a group of young artists living in poverty in Paris.
The poet Rodolfo falls in love with his neighbor Mimì, but her declining health strains their relationship. Meanwhile, their friend Marcello has a turbulent romance with Musetta.
Eventually, Rodolfo and Mimì separate, but reunite when Mimì becomes seriously ill. She dies peacefully with Rodolfo and their friends around her.
In short: a tragic story of young love, friendship, poverty, and loss.
La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi tells the story of Violetta, a famous Parisian courtesan, who falls in love with Alfredo.
They leave Paris to live together, but Alfredo’s father persuades Violetta to end the relationship to protect the family’s reputation. She leaves Alfredo without telling him the real reason.
When he later learns the truth, they are briefly reunited—but Violetta is dying of tuberculosis. She dies in Alfredo’s arms.
In short: a tragic story of love, sacrifice, social prejudice, and death
Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) is a two-act opera by Mozart.
Prince Tamino is asked to rescue Pamina, daughter of the Queen of the Night, from Sarastro, who initially appears to be her kidnapper. Tamino discovers that Sarastro is actually a wise leader, while the Queen represents vengeance and darkness.
With his companion Papageno, Tamino undergoes a series of trials. Protected by a magic flute, Tamino and Pamina prove their courage and love and ultimately triumph. Papageno also finds his beloved Papagena.
In short: it is a fairy-tale story about love, courage, wisdom, and the triumph of light over darkness.
We will perform this opera withou spoken dialogue. A narrator will present the opera to our Chinese audience.
