Mediterranean Opera Studio and Festival operates in the beautiful city of Caltagirone, some 40 miles Southwest of Catania.
Our center of study is the INPS Dorm facility – Convitto INPS Luigi Sturzo, in Via Delle Industrie #9. The Convitto is the Italian equivalent of a university dormitory. We each have a single room with bathroom that is cleaned and taken care of by workers daily. Towels and bedsheets are changed weekly. Rooms are simply furnished with a single bed, nightstand, desk, and wardrobe with key. As is the case in many sites throughout Italy, there is no air conditioning in the individual rooms.
Those desiring further comfort may enroll with the Hotel option. The Convitto is about a 20 minute walk from Caltagirone’s NH Villa San Mauro Hotel (see below). If you wish to stay in greater comfort with air conditioning and pool, MOSF has discounted rates available. Hotel stays can be organized as single room occupancy (queen size bed), or you can stay with a second person in a double occupancy (two single beds).
Breakfast and lunch are served in the cafeteria of the Convitto. Breakfast is typically continental-style, and lunch is Italian-style with primo piatto of pasta and secondo piatto of meat or fish with sides and fruit. Dinner and snacks can be purchased at local supermarkets, pizzerias, or restaurants.
Housing and above amenities are included in the regular Participation Fee.
Should you desire upgraded housing at the Hotel Villa San Mauro, the participation fee upgrade fee is:
Single Room Occupancy – $1600
Double Room Occupancy (same room with another program participant or non-participant second person) – $900
Please be aware that all food included in your participation fee is served at the Convitto cafeteria and cannot be transported out if you are staying at the hotel (see covid restrictions for relevant info) or elsewhere. MOSF is not responsible to provide any food outside the breakfast and lunch served at the Convitto facility.
All our rehearsal, coaching, lesson, and performing auditorium spaces are within the Convitto structure.
