Charles Buttigieg a 23 year old Baritone from Gozo, started singing at the age of 11 when joined the Chorus Urbanus under the direction of Mro Dr. John Galea in 2011. He has been studying Voice since then with the Maltese Soprano Ms. Juliette Bisazza. In 2014 by the BOV JC Foundation. He was awarded a scholarship to continue his vocal studies and education. In June 2017, Charles attended the Mediterranean Opera Studio & Festival in Caltagirone where he was chosen by Mr. Jack Livigni to perform La Bohème at Teatro Eschillo in Gela and in Agrigento. With the support of the BOV JC Foundation, in 2018, Charles has frequented a Master-Class in Nevada with Ms. Dolora Zajick. Later that year he went to Philadelphia, where he has been chosen by one of the most selective schools in the U.S.A. The Curtis Institute of Music where he continued his studies with Mezzo Soprano Ms. Patricia McCaffrey. Charles is currently also studying voice under the leadership of Mro Jack Livigni. Recently he was invited at a private fundraising concert in New York City, in the presence of the Chairman of the Metropolitan Ms. Ann Ziff, Soprano Ms. Renee Fleming and Mezzo Soprano Ms. Dolora Zajick. In March 2018, he performed at the Curtis Institute of Music, Philadelphia Perelman Theatre with his debut as Masetto in Don Giovanni, Mr. Fogg in Sweeney Todd and Spirit in Dido and Aeneas. In November 2019, he debuted in Barber of Seville as Figaro at the Opera Philadelphia, Kimmel Centre with the Curtis Symphony Orchestra. Here, he had an international leading role at 20 years of age. Last June Charles was Invited to sing in a concert with the Maltese Philarmonic Orchestra, with the legend Soprano Diana Damrau. In September 2021 he was awarded from the International Opera House in New York the Metropolitan Opera. In March this year he has the honour to share the stage with Tenor Joseph Calleja in a concert at the Opera Naples in Florida. After his four years of continuous studies in May 2022 his dream came true as he graduated with honours as a baritone from the Curtis Institute of Music.
