Benjamin Matis, Tenor (Edgardo) has served several Jewish communities in the USA. He has been soloist more than five times for the Cantors Assembly North American Annual Conventions and most recently as cantor soloist with the choir of the Krakow Philharmonic (Krakow, Poland) in a program of rare Eastern European synagogue music. He is also a scholar of the music and liturgy of the Jews of Eastern Europe and has published three major articles on music and liturgy as well as co-edited volume 32 of the yearbook POLIN: Studies in Polish Jewry. He is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland (BMus, Voice), Queens College of the City University of New York (MA Music History) and was trained in the cantorial arts at The Jewish Theological Seminary of America (MSacredMusic.) He has studied voice with Manny Perez, and Jack Livigni. He and his family reside in Baltimore, Maryland.
